Mid Year Music Review

Since this year is flying by and is really almost half way over at this point…it’s time for The Word’s mid year music review.  As your musical life coach, I take my responsibilities very seriously. Hopefully you will continue to seek out new music and not rest on your laurels. These are my top picks of 2012 so far, feel free to leave a comment on your favorite album this far. If you have not heard any of these albums…check em out!

Top 10 Albums of 2012 So Far

  1. Jack White – Blunderbuss (Epic debut album from one of the best axe men of all time)
  2. Justin Townes Earle – Nothing Gonna Change The Way You Feel About Me Now (Powerful mellow New Orleans type sound and quality lyrics)
  3. The White Buffalo – Once Upon A Time In The West (My personal favorite)
  4. Andrew Bird – Break It Yourself (Give this one a chance, this guy damn good and the album just gets better every time you play it)
  5. Band Of Skulls – Band Of Skulls ( These guys are gonna be huge)
  6. Alabama Shakes (If you know me, you know them;)
  7. Fun – Some Nights ( We Are Young  Best single in the last 5 years)
  8. BIG K.R.I.T – Live From The Underground (Learn who he is now, before he takes over the rap game)
  9. Le-Sara – Sees The Light (Reminds me of a good stoner/summer album)
  10. The Hunger Games Soundtrack (Before you judge, check out the who’s who of artist on the bill)
  11. Of Monsters And Men – My Head Is An Animal (Some great songs on this one)

Honorable Mention:

Leonard Cohen -Old Ideas (Old Fart still making good stuff)

Johnny Mayer – Born and Raised (Good guitar work here)

Beach House – Bloom ( This one could easily be Top 10)
