Would you pay for Facebook?

September 26, 2011

As I am sure many of you know the social networking empire know as Facebook has made some updates as of late. A lot of users were pissed about the recent Facebook updates. Last I checked FB is free, so you really cannot bitch too much. This got me thinking, would you pay for Facebook? A lot of people have invested hundreds of hours of their lives to Facebook. These people have a very personal relationship with their page and the format/presentation. Who is to say FB could or should not charge you for this service? I look at it like this, FB could stand to lose you if you get pissed and they know it. FB has become so ingrained in our culture, I do not think it will be going away anytime soon. Where do your alliances and passions reside? Before you respond with outrage ask yourself these questions.

  1. Do you pay to shop at Sams? Who is doing who the favor or is it just a perceived benefit?
  2. Did you drop your smart phone, when all major carriers went to size based data plans?
  3. Did you sell your SUV when gas prices remain high as hell?
  4. Did you drop Netflix when the price doubled recently?

My point is every person has to draw his or her own line in the sand. If you say you would leave FB if they charged, could you? They have over a billion users, think if they asked for a 5 buck fee for a yearly service, is that too much. What about 5 dollars every month, that over-charging? Society pays for business decision almost every day. At the end of the day have no doubt FB is a business, so don’t be surprised by anything. Maybe you will have to pay to be in the loop…that is the word.
